How To Dress For Your Family Photoshoot at Kerry Park

The most common question I get asked as a family photographer is, “what should we wear?” Its a great question and the answer will depend a lot on who you are as a family. Below are a few of the basic answers that I give my clients:

1) The most important thing when choosing an outfit is to make it comfortable. If you are uncomfortable, the camera will know. The camera knows all.

2) The second most important thing is to feel beautiful. If you feel beautiful, you will look beautiful. It really is that simple. Dress in something that makes you feel amazing.

3) The third thing is layers. Layers are super flattering and allow you to get a variety of looks simply removing a coat or scarf without having a change an entire outfit.

4) The forth thing is to think about color. There was a period in the late 90s where a family would show up to a photo shoot all dressed alike. This is not really a look that I think is flattering (see rules 1 and 2). Instead of matching completely, I recommend picking a color or two and coordinating your outfits around those colors.

This family that I recently photographed in Kerry Park did an amazing job or coordinating outfits without matching outfits. Each person is dressed differently in a way that is flattering to each individual, however, they have the unifying colors of navy and mustard.

Just look how amazing this turns out in photographs!
